In her triumphant return to New York after being stranded in Chicago by Hurricane Sandy and Canada by the nor’easter, Nicky Epstein wowed the crowd with samples from her new book, Knitting in Circles. This is the sister book to Knitting Block by Block, but she promised us that her next book would NOT be about triangles. Nicky explores circles in new her book, creating a wealth of varied circular motifs that you can use to make one of her designs or create your own. Her use of circular and double-pointed needles is unconventional, as opposed to making tubular shapes with them as we normally would she uses them to make flat pieces.
Nicky adapted her motif patterns to clothing designs that ranged from quite simple to more difficult. The motifs lend themselves well to quick projects like a bag or just by adding a ribbed band you can make a beret! Her beautiful Crystal Lace Jacket is also a very manageable pattern once you master the central lace motif. The Eternity Dress garnered the most sighs of admiration from the audience. Although the dress is one of the more involved designs in the book, it is quite worth the stunning pay-off.
Our personal favorite was the Le Cirque Baby Afghan which was embellished with animal heads that were stuffed like toys. It was such an adorable use of our Baby Wool!
