Double-knitting is a great skill; I love knitting extra-warm projects with the technique and making reversible motifs as I go. But did you know that double-knitting can help you make reversible fabric with different motifs on either side?
In this class, I’ll help you learn to make a reversible stockinette stitch with two different images on either side, with both sides being the right side (or “public side”). I’ll show you how easy it can be to follow the chart for the front and the back of your work at the same time (trust me, it’s much easier than it sounds!). Once you know how to create this kind of fabric, you’ll be able to make reversible scarves, blankets, turned up cuffs on sweaters or hats… anything where both sides of the fabric will be visible. The sky is the limit!
I love colorwork of any kind, but this is my favorite method of color knitting because I don’t have to decide on just one motif or picture; I can knit two at the same time! I also love making completely reversible stockinette stitch fabrics that doesn’t curl or require any sewing. This will be my first time teaching this class, and I am very excited to help my students feel confident enough to choose two completely different colorwork charts to design their own two-pattern double-knit fabric.
Here’s one tip that you can try at home: Get out your knitting graph paper and try charting your own designs. It may take some swatching to get your designs exactly right, but it’s very rewarding!
