* Warm Up America (WUA), which is one of the yarn industry’s major charities, has partnered with Save the Children (STC) on its Knit One Save One campaign to rally knitters and crocheters nationwide to make caps for newborns. The caps, along with basic medical supplies, will be distributed through STC health facilities to new mothers in developing countries to help save the more than 4 million infants who die each year for lack of such basic items as knit caps to keep their bodies warm.

This is a wonderful project! My twin granddaughters were born at 26 weeks and were very small. Their NICU in Pittsburgh had many donated items of the type – knitted hats and quilted throws made and donated by volunteers. Keep up the good work!!
What’s the address to show up?
I live on Long Island, not a city girl, but, I do need an address to show
up to help out !!
Thanks in advance.

I have been on a personal crusade making hats for the neonatal intensive care units and have sent them to Hershey Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Montgomery Hospital, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
I started out with Hershey as a way of thanking the doctors and nurses who were so kind to my niece when she lost her baby Elizabeth Anne Stewart at 28 weeks. It is a wonderful way to use up yarn. My sister Sue has joined me in this campaign and when we run out of yarn, we purchase it at thrift stores, being “ultimate-recyclers!”
We make orange hats with green pompoms for Fall/Halloween, soft yellow with orange pompoms for Spring/Easter and the most adorable Santa hats for the Christmas season! Everyone is happy….the nursery staff, the parents and the babies!
Can you send me the pattern via e-mail— acampailla@comcast.net?. Thank you.
