Prudence Mapstone’s Freeform Knitting or Crochet

Learn how you can take just a few simple knit or crochet stitches and use them in multi-directional ways to construct your own unique artwork. Once you have practiced a few basic techniques and created your own freeform patch or ’scrumble,’ you will discover how easy it is to intuitively design your own tactile freeform fabrics…imagine what you will then be able create using knitting or crochet. Skill level: participants should have a prior knowledge of at least the basics of either knitting or crochet.

Shirley Paden !! Based on her much anticipated Sweater Design Book, Shirley Paden will take you through all the steps of sweater design in this intensive all day workshop.

Tuition : $80 / 6 hour session (limit 12 people)

In this class students will learn to custom-make their own sweater patterns. They will work through organizing the components involved in constructing two different types of pullovers with a round neckline. The first is the Classic Body silhouette that is based on the bust measurements. It is worked straight to the armholes, then, the armholes and neckline are shaped. The second is the Double Tapered Body silhouette. This sweater type is shaped along the natural curves of the body to the armholes, then, the armholes and neckline are shaped. Both pullover types will be planned with set-in sleeves. Students will be walked through accurately measuring a swatch, taking body measurements, writing a pattern, and calculating yarn amounts. Measuring a garment will also be reviewed.
