Happy Birthday David (or fun with machine knitting)

Recently our own fearless leader, David Blumenthal, had a birthday. We wanted to give him a little something from the Studio staff, so we took a picture of the team standing in the studio and had it framed.
I was just about to go out and get wrapping paper when I thought, we have yarn, we have a knitting machine, we’ll make our own wrapping paper! So James picked out the colors, and I hopped on the machine. First I knit up the “paper” out of Vanna’s Choice Tangerine Mist. Next it was time to knock out a “ribbon” out of Moonlight Mohair Rain Forest. I wrapped the gift, and I thought it looked pretty cute, and then one of our customers (also named David) chimed in that it needed a felted card. . . so, out comes the Lion Wool in Fern. A small swatch later, add some hot water and soap and it was time to “sign the card”. We took some LB 1878 in Fisherman and stitched up a little name and we were all done!
You know when you give a kid a present and they spend more time playing with the box, well . . . David liked the photo, but he asked if we could wrap an empty box so he could display the original yarn wrapped gift.

If you want to make a gift extra special, wrap it in yarn! (Want to learn machine knitting? Take a private lesson at the Studio)

What a great idea. I can’t wait to try knitted wrapping paper. I do not have a knitting machine but will try a hand knitted option.
