New Year’s Yarn Crafting Resolutions

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

New Year’s Yarn Crafting Resolutions

A blogger once declared January the month of selfish knitting. She said that after months of knitting and crocheting for others, it was time to make things only for yourself.

Here at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio we like to think of January as the time to start learning new things. The new year is a time for new skills and new friends. Since we offer over 60 different classes as well as free groups, you make new friends and learn new skills!

Here’s a sampling of what some of the staff of the Lion Brand Yarn Studio would like to learn or accomplish. Call it our New Year’s Yarncrafting resolutions.

What are yours? Check out our class page for ideas of learning new skills!

Patty: “Get over my fear of Fair Isle” (check out Intro to Fair Isle)

Will: “Finally crochet an afghan” (check out Crochet Motifs for inspiration)

Michelle: "I want to learn no chain crochet" (I think there’s a class for that!)

Andrea: “Learn Tunisian crochet” (The Studio offers two different Tunisian classes!)

Gina: “Make a sweater” (how about Sweater School)

Celia: “Explore more advanced color work” (How about Fair Isle Flat, Intarsia or Entrelac)

Leave us a comment and tell us what is your New Year’s Yarncrafting Resolution!

Nicky Epstein, A Studio Favorite

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Last week the wonderful Nicky Epstein came by for an evening of fun, fashion and yarn! She was showing off the adorable projects from her newest book, Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch .

The packed crowd was also the first lucky folks to hear the announcement that we are currently taking enrollment in a special event with Nicky on Jan 3rd. Click here to read all about it.

Our evening began with a fabulous fashion show (with our customers as stars!)

After some garments, we need some bags!

Just look at those cute hats, want to see them in person . . .

how cute!!!

After a fabulous session of questions and answers, it was time for the book signing.

Why can’t Nicky come to see us every week!

300 Hours of Knitting and Crocheting in the Window!!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

(Michelle & Gina buried in scarves!)

On October 1st we announced we would be knitting and crocheting in the window of the Lion Brand Yarn Studio , to make scarves for Charity. In addition, we would be collecting donations of hats and scarves from our area customers to be donated to our local charity, Partnership for the Homeless . Many New York area yarncrafters participated, in addition, the blog sparked the interest of yarncrafters around the country to reach out to their own local charities through our Charity Connection .

Our studio staff took turns knitting and crocheting in the window for 300 hours!  Our goal was to hit 75 scarves.  We blogged about our progress (Studio Staff in the Window , Donations So Far ), we posted our scarf patterns on Lion Brand Blog (click here for all the scarf posts).

Our final count . . . 90 scarves !!!!!

To read about our customer’s amazing donations.  Check the Lion Brand Blog .

Thanks to all who participated.  Your kindness will be keeping a lot of people warm this winter.
