Vogue Knitting Live is one of our favorite events because it’s right in our backyard! This year, a few of the Studio staff members attended Vogue Knitting Live and they wanted to share their experiences with you!
I was lucky enough to see first-hand the transformation of the Marriott Marquis into… VK LIVE! What began on Thursday as a series of poles and curtains and many, many enticing and mysterious boxes in each booth was, only a day later, an astounding display of texture and color. It was a lot of fun to see fiber artist Nathan Vincent assembling his 7 Wonders of the Yarn World exhibit for Lion Brand’s contribution to the 5th floor art space. “Hmmm… where should we put Stonehenge?” Of course, that wasn’t the only transformation that took place that weekend – I seem to have all of this yarn in my bag where my wallet used to be…
Vogue Knitting Live is always a fun event to look forward to in the cold of winter (even if there isn’t any snow around). While I didn’t work in the Lion Brand booth this year, I still stopped by to say, “Hi,” and admire all the samples on display – some of them were things I had only seen on the website and hadn’t had a chance to examine up close yet.
Getting an opportunity to see some fabulous knitted art is a big plus as well. I wanted to hang out and work on my current WIP in the Knitted Teepee by Ute Lennartz while watching the parade of hand-made sweaters and accessories go by. And I hope everyone who was able to go on Sunday had fun hunting for balloons knitted by Anna Hrachovec of Mochimochi Land (Studio favorite and tiny knitter extraordinaire)!
Attending Vogue Knitting at the New York Marriott Marquis is the highlight of every January. This was the first year I was able to work at the Lion Brand Yarn Booth, and it was fun to see many of my regular Lion Brand Yarn Studio customers enjoying the yarn and fiber excitement. Many people were visiting from outside NYC, and were happy to discover the LB Collection® display. They were happy to learn, even though this luxury yarn is not available at most retail locations, it can be ordered at lionbrand.com. The LB Collection® Natural Wool seemed to get most of the attention on Sunday, maybe because it was cold and rainy outside and this extra super bulky yarn is very warm and cozy. I personally love this yarn and knitted a cardigan using it last spring. Another hit at the Lion Brand Yarn Booth was a cowl knitted with the new yarn Gold Leaf. I also enjoyed many of the other venders! I bought a drop spindle and some fiber!
We also hosted a bunch of great authors and designers in the Lion Brand booth! Check out interviews with Lily Chin, Colette Smith, Dora Ohrenstein, and Margaret Hubert. (Having trouble viewing the video? Click here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2VjAZ-N13BC8UT0p_crxMwy52p8rrmD_)
