Cookie A is a California-based knitwear designer with a penchant for socks that showcase exciting techniques. Her work has been published in various print and online publications, including Vogue Knitting, Knit.1, Knitty, Sockupied, and Knitting Daily. She is the author of Sock Innovation (2009 Interweave Press) and Knit. Sock. Love. (2010 One Leg Press). Cookie teaches knitting workshops internationally and has demonstrated sock-knitting tips and techniques on Knitting Daily TV, Knitty Gritty, and Sockupied. |

Creating Stitch Patterns Learn how to create your own stitch patterns by studying what makes other stitch patterns. We’ll go over knit/purl shapes, different ways to make diagonal lines, eyelets, cables, and curves as well as how different stitches affect the knitted fabric. Students can practice working pre-made stitch patterns to get a feel for how to create shapes using different techniques, or they can bring in their own shapes to work on the needles.Tuesday, January 17 5:00 – 8:00 pm Tuition: $65 |

Ruth Marshall, Australian fiber artist, has became internationally known for her hand knit pelts of exotic animals endangered by the illegal skin trade. Each of her one-of-a-kind textiles represents an individual animal she spends months researching. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue Knitting, NY Daily News, Surface Magazine, and Craft Activism (2011 Random House), and her creations have been exhibited in museums around the world. |

Animal Intarsia: How Knitting Can Interpret Nature’s Forms Knitters are taught unconventional intarsia techniques that Marshall uses to create her textile pelts of live animals at zoos or in archives of leading institutions. Participants see how the artist translates intricate patterns in nature to a grid which will serve as a knitting chart. Dora Ohrenstein is a well known author of crochet books, a designer whose work has appeared in magazines such as Interweave Crochet and Crochet Today, and editor of the widely read online magazine Crochet Insider. She is also a singer and voice teacher who lives in Manhattan. Her new book is entitled Custom Crocheted Sweaters (2010 Lark Books). |
