We’re so grateful here at LBYS for the warmth of our community, especially in a winter as cold as this one. So we’re very pleased to announce a new community yarncrafting group: Block Party! One Thursday a month we’ll gather in our large classroom to hang out together and make squares for Warm Up America so we can share the love and warmth we enjoy every day. Our first meeting is Thursday March 26th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Mary Collucci, Executive Director of the Craft Yarn Council will be on hand to kick things off.
If you’re new to yarn crafting, this is a great way to build your skills and make new friends! If you’re an experience knitter or crocheter, come share your wisdom (and make new friends!). Once we gather enough squares, we’ll have a seaming session to put them together. We’ll have different staff members hosting each month, so we can all get to know each other better, because that’s the best thing about community, right?
Warm Up America recommends using worsted weight, easy-care acrylic yarn. Vanna’s Choice® is perfect because it’s machine washable and dryable but any easy care yarn can be used. Bring yarn left over from other projects and put it to good use! If you don’t have anything in your stash, participants get 10% off purchases the night of the group, so pick some up on your way upstairs!
