Lion Brand Yarn Studio’s Men’s Knitting and Crochet Night (a.k.a. the Will & James Show) has had two successful nights. Both were attended by about 15 manly men, with a wide variety of projects, techniques, fibers, tools and tensions. We start up at close on the second Sunday of the month (5 pm, this coming May 10th) and masc-craft for a good two hours. Yes, we realize it will be Mother’s Day, and not to be deemed chauvinistic as our event is men’s only, we do provide a lovely sidewalk space outside our store where your mothers can wait for you; plus May usually has very nice weather. (Editor’s note: James is a good son who loves his mother. His mother knows he is kidding.)
Last month we had honorary Fiber Warrior Nathan Vincent drop in to regale us with stories of creating various high-testosterone yarn projects (Lawn mowers! Urinals! Wars!–okay, maybe not wars) as well as some behind-the-scenes scoop of his sharing the stage with Martha Stewart on the all-about-yarn episode of her show (Lion Brand and the Studio were featured as well). For May, we’re hoping to include an actual loom weaver to our macho mix (you know who you are!) which should only add to the potential throw-down between straight needles and hooks—seriously guys, we don’t want to have to check all scissors and darning needles at the door; all fiber arts are always welcome. So drop by (if you’re a man) this coming Sunday May 10th (if you’re a man) between 5 pm and 7 pm (if you’re a man) and knit/crochet/loom/scratch-yourself–and remember our motto: it’s not the size of the swatch that counts, it’s the stitches per inch.

Hi,
When is your next Men’s only night? I knit and would like to meet other guys who do as well. I need to overcome my shyness of knitting by myself.
Thanks, Mark
Studio says: Our men’s night is the second Sunday of every month. We start taking RSVPs on the first of every month. Just check back to this blog on the 1st of March to RSVP. See you soon!
I am currently in the process of writing a book about men & knitting, and would like to know if I could receive permission to duplicate this picture. Attributes to Lion Brand Yarn Studio would be listed under the picture.
Thanks

Studio says: Hi Jim, sorry, this is an old picture a customer sent us. I believe it was found on the internet.
In case anyone is wondering… This picture shows a group of men knitting on Gearhart antique sock knitting machines. Two men are cranking out socks, two men are closing the toes with a Kitchener stitch and the other two are just watching 🙂 Great picture! I own several sock knitting machines – so much fun and such an important part of history.
