Here at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, we like to think of the new year as a time to learn new things and take on new, challenging projects. January is the perfect time to start learning new things and making new friends.  With so many classes to offer, it’s easy to do both at the same time!

If you’re looking for inspiration or just a little help with your own resolutions, click here to check out our classes page for details on all the new skills you can learn.

Here are just a few of the resolutions that we’re making this year for a new year in yarn. Let us know what your New Year’s yarncrafting resolutions will be!

Patty:“I would like to try my hand at double knitting with a different image on each side. I also want to master fixing mistakes in double knitting!”
Rin: “This year I have two resolutions. First, I plan on learning basic knitting, and would like to work up to a hat. Second, I would like to learn to dye yarn, so I can make the hot pink wool sweater that I’ve been dreaming of!”
Staff Suggestion: Intermediate Double Knitting

Grace: “I always love learning something, so this year I resolve to learn needle felting. I love the sculptural quality of needle felted projects and its just another excuse to play around with wonderful, wooly goodness.”Jen: “I like to spin my own yarn and my apartment is littered with little scraps of wool – what to do? This year I’m hoping to learn needle-felting and turn those leftovers into some great embellishments for my FOs… or perhaps a tiny gnome to guard my stash.” Claire: “My yarncrafting resolution for 2013 is to make a crochet garment that fits! I’ve mastered amigurumi and all sorts of household items and accessories, but I still haven’t made a successful garment in crochet. I really like our Perfect Crochet Cardigan in Amazing®, but I don’t want to end up with sleeves past my fingertips or too-small armholes! I think Andrea’s Crochet Gauge (Jan 28th) class would help me better understand how to count stitches in a pattern that’s not just straightforward rows of the same stitch.”
Staff Suggestion: Intro to Needle Felting or 3D Needle Felting

Andrea: “I’ve dabbled in some very basic yarn dyeing, but I would love to try and create some more interesting looking yarns to liven up my gigantic stash!  I’m also interested in any further tips and tricks I can add to my home dye studio!”  Gretchen: “I love the look of Entrelac, but I’ve never taken the plunge and actually made anything with that technique. I’m sure I would have a great time knitting up scarves and I once saw a felted entrelac bag that I’ve been wanting to make. The first step in all of this, of course, is learning entrelac, so this year I will make it a point to add this to my knitting skills.”
Staff Suggestion: Yarn Dyeing-Basics for Beginners or Kitchen Safe Yarn Dyeing
