The Lion Brand Yarn Studio is centrally located near several great neighborhoods in New York City. We are just a few blocks from Union Square, Flatiron, West Village, and Chelsea. With so many tasty restaurants and interesting places to explore, when you visit our award winning store, you can also take a side trip to enjoy some of the tastiest food and unique shopping anywhere on earth!
Welcome to our new feature where we highlight our staff’s favorite places to visit in the neighborhood we know and love! In future installments we’ll be highlighting dozens more wonderful sights from bakeries to clothing stores to museums plus many, many restaurants you’ll enjoy discovering when you visit the Studio.
City Bakery is famous for their pretzel croissants and decadent hot chocolate, and we hear the two combine perfectly for those of you with both a sweet AND salty tooth. Lion Brand staff can’t get enough of this delicious spot! Part bakery, part café, coffee bar and cafeteria, City Bakery also offers many healthy choices for breakfast and lunch, with a salad bar buffet, sandwiches, soups, and specialty pizzas.

The Strand Bookstore is wonderful for browsing new and used books in any category. We love their extensive crafts book section on the 2nd floor. Plan to spend lots of time exploring their 18 miles of books! And if that’s not enough, the Strand offers more than just books – cute bags and gifts for everyone in the stationery section, along with movies, CDs, and records in the basement. Bring the kids along and enjoy story time on the weekends. The store’s selection changes frequently, so add the Strand to your list of places to stop by regularly when you visit the Studio!

Eataly NYC is a foodie’s mecca for everything Italian (cheese, bread, prosciutto, gelato, espresso, wine, cookbooks, and more). We could wander around there for hours! The beautiful space has several mini-restaurants to eat in, or you can shop the markets and take your goodies home. We recommend the Birreria restaurant and brewery on the roof – we’re dreaming of the fabulous view and rooftop dining in spring! You can also sign up for a cooking class or walking tour.
