Welcome back to the feature where we highlight our staff’s favorite places to explore in the neighborhood we know and love! This time we’re focusing on dessert. After rounding up beloved coffee shops in our recent posts, our sweet tooth kicked in. Join us and check out some of the delicious treats our neighborhood has to offer!
Breads Bakery offers fresh-baked breads and pastries, with arguably THE best chocolate rugalach in the city! According to several of our Lion Brand associates, that is. The almond croissant is incredibly delectable, the chocolate Babka is rightfully famous, and the flaky cheese stick is a delicious savory choice. The rear counter sells coffee, sandwiches, spreads, and salads, which you can enjoy along with your dessert at the tables in the back. And for those of you outside of NYC, Breads Bakery ships nationwide!

Dough takes doughnuts to the next level! Their large doughnuts’ exceptional texture and fluffiness comes from the brioche-like dough. And you can even peek into the kitchen and watch the whole doughnut-making process! Try one of their signature flavors, inspired by the chef’s Mexican heritage along with European influences – such as dulce de leche or the vibrantly colored hibiscus doughnut. The Nutella-filled doughnut is a crowd favorite, too. In addition to their trademark pastry, Dough offers coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and Doughkas – a twist on the Babka, these treats are fluffier than the traditional Eastern European twisted yeast loaf.

At Max Brenner, a chocolate-themed bar and restaurant, you can eat and drink your fill of chocolate in countless forms! From chocolate cocktails to chocolate pizza(!), this is a prime spot for chocolate lovers. Savory food is also on the menu (including salads, burgers, waffle sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, and brunch), but really, pretty much everyone comes here for the dessert. Crepes, cakes, milkshakes, fondue, hot chocolate in Max Brenner’s signature “hug mug”… so many chocolate delicacies to try! Be prepared for a long wait at this tourist hotspot.
