This past Thursday we were thrilled to have the fabulous Nicky Epstein back at the Studio for an evening of conversation and fun with her fans.
The subjects of Nicky’s latest book, Knits for Dolls, were there too – all “dolled up” in some seriously chic and fashion-forward outfits!
Nicky told us that as a knitwear designer, she loves designing for dolls because she can apply a lot of the fashion techniques she loves using, but on a much smaller scale, which means both speed and economy! Designing for dolls is a great way to experiment with new techniques and yarns.
Nicky pointed out that you can get a whole outfit from a relatively small amount of yarn – she made many of her dolls’ outfits from our Bonbons yarn, using a single pack to make a colorful and coordinated ensemble. She also had a lot of great suggestions about where to get dolls and doll accessories at a discount – for example, most of the dolls in her collection are from Madame Alexander and Journey, which offer lower price points.
Thanks for another great evening, Nicky!
