Our favorite hand dyed yarn is rolling into the Studio this week (on 9/13)! Dyed By Darrin is back with 5 new exciting yarn bases.
The first three yarns are fingering/sock weight. Not all “sock weight” yarns are equally sock knitting worthy. High Twist and BFL Donegal will both hold up as footwear (as well as work for other lightweight items). The nylon content helps the stitches stay strong and can elongate the life of your socks. Quarter Round is the same weight, but comprised wholly of superwash merino. This soft squishy yarn is best suited to items like shawls, scarves, cowls, and sweaters that will not experience heavy friction with wear.
The other two bases are DK weight. Extrafine DK is a 100% superwash merino with a firm twist and nice bouncy elasticity. It works up into gorgeous accessories and garments alike. Chainette DK is something a little different. The chain construction produces a lightweight, open-core yarn. Let this one shine in simple garter and stockinette patterns.
High Twist Sock – 400 yds per skein, $26. A blend of 80% superwash merino, 10% nylon, and 10% cashmere! Great for shawls, socks, garments, and all kinds of accessories.
BFL Donegal Sock – 438 yds per skein, $23. 85% superwash Bluefaced Leicester, 15% NEP (nylon) – the 15% nylon is the tweedy bits in this yarn. Hard-wearing enough for socks, also good for shawls and accessories.
Quarter Round Sock – 438 yds per skein, $23. 100% superwash merino woo. Okay for socks, but the heels will probably felt a bit with wear. Great for shawls, accessories, and garments.
Extrafine DK – 250 yds per skein, $21. 100% superwash merino wool. A heavier DK weight than the LBC Superwash Merino, great for accessories for kids and adults alike. Darrin has already crocheted a hat/cowl in this and loves it!
Chainette DK – 273 yds per skein, $21. 100% superwash merino with a chainette construction. Super light and fluffy, could easily be worked on size 8 – 10 needles for a squishy warm cowl or scarf!
