We’re very excited to have Colette Smith as this season’s featured fiber artist in the LBY Studio!
Colette Smith is a fiber artist and pattern designer living in Colorado. She loves to explore the boundaries of realism and fantasy as seen in her larger-than-life dragons and bird feathers. At home in both the hardware store and yarn shop, she blends knitting with beadwork, wire, and appliqué over armatures of construction materials. Her hobbies include ornithology and beekeeping. She enjoys the meditation of knitting and bird-watching and finds peace when surrounded by thousands of stinging insects.
This piece is made from soldered copper frame with hand knit peacock eye of LB Collection® yarns including LB Collection® Silk Mohair, LB Collection® Superwash Merino, LB Collection® Silk, and LB Collection® Baby Alpaca. The fronds use a jewelers technique of wire wrapping with LB Collection® Wool Stainless Steel and Silk Mohair yarns. Due to the blending of multiple yarns, there are approximately 4 miles of yarn in this design!
We spoke to Colette when she visited our booth at VK Live! Hear more about her work below:
