If you’re a fan of Darrin’s hand-dyed yarns, we have some exciting news for you! We refreshed our batch of his gorgeous, one-of-a-kind skeins over the weekend. Darrin has added some new bases to his dyeing repertoire, and has renamed his yarns – inspired by exotic cats. Scroll down to see his new yarns, read the details, and stop by our Manhattan Studio to grab your special skein today.
Introducing Exotic Cats
Darrin’s new Margay Mini-Skein Sets are made from a blend of 80% superwash merino, and 20% nylon for durability. In each set, you’ll get 5 skeins at 80yds each, for a total of 400yds per set! Recommended needle size US 1-3. You could use a full set of mini-skeins for a sweater, or use for color work in other pieces, or for the yoke of a sweater.
Jaguar Worsted is also new, and it’s 100% superwash merino. Each skein measured 218yds, recommended needle size: US 7-9. Jaguar is dyed in lots of ten, so be sure to shop big if you’re thinking of a sweater or another large project. You can also test it out with a one-skein wonder project.
Snow Leopard Sparkle is 75% superwash merino, 20% nylon, and 5% stellina. Each skein measures 438yds, and we recommend using US 1-3 needles. Snow Leopard Sparkle is a no-brainer for (sparkly!) socks, but would also be nice for shawls and other garments.
Darrin’s Caracal Single is also 100% superwash merino, and it’s a single-ply measuring 400yds per skein. We recommend US 1-3 needles for working with this yarn. Caracal is going to shine most in shawls, but would be great for hats, mittens, and any other accessories!
And 3 favorite Dyed by Darrin yarns have been renamed, to fit the exotic cats theme!
Above, you’ll see Puma Sock, an 80% superwash merino, 10% nylon, and 10% cashmere yarn perfect for sock-making. It’s also a lovely choice for shawls and garments, and will drape beautifully. This would also pair nicely with the Margay Mini-Skeins to get the same texture. It’s 400yds per skein, and we recommend using US 1-3 needles.
Ocelot Tweed has a lot of color personality, just like the big colorful cats. It’s tough enough for socks, but pretty for shawls and other garments, too. This yarn is 85% BFL (blue-faced Leicester) wool, 15% nylon. Each skein measures 438yds, and we’d suggest US 1-3 needles.
Lynx DX is another 100% superwash merino, measuring 250yds. Recommended needle size US 6-7. This is a grab-for-anything workhorse yarn, whether it’s hats, scarves, mittens, cowls, or sweaters.
