Zoe Talks about Her Work
“Spirits, sacred creatures, and phantoms from the dream world inhabit my work. The color white is a continuous theme, transfiguring a motley assortment of animals into an otherworldly pantheon. They serve as conduits to the unknown, connecting the viewer to the (inner) realm of the collective unconscious and the (outer) kingdom of nature. They also function to bring these two worlds into alignment, each as a means to better appreciate the other.
The creatures in my Seawall series, in emerging from the wall as if from a pool of water, embody a direct encounter with the unconscious. Familiar creatures arise, lending a comfortable, albeit mysterious, framework for our understanding of the otherwise inscrutable depths of the human psyche.”
