Beginning this June and continuing into July, Lion Brand Yarn Studio will host a series of Master Classes for students interested in developing their design skills with a true master of the craft, Lily Chin. Of course, Lily Chin is not just an accomplished designer of knit and crochet garments, she is also a passionate, humorous and popular teacher. This is an unprecedented opportunity to explore the principles of designing for hand knitters and crocheters in depth over a period of several weeks in our intimate setting.
Beginning with the Elements of Design on Sunday June 7 & 14, Lily will introduce students to all aspects and details necessary to execute successful designs, including shape, fit, ease, proportion, color, pattern, stitch, yarn, fabric, composition, and more.
Continuing on Sunday, June 28 with Knocking Off a Garment and Computer Aided Design students will delve into the ways of creating patterns from existing garments and using the computer to save time and effort in the design process. Each class runs 3 hours.
Finally, on July 12 & 19 in Draping a Pattern students will get an opportunity to break away from standard shapes and explore the process of designing by draping fabric. Working closely with Lily to drape and build the garments on each other students will learn to refine and perfect fit before transposing the results into a workable pattern.
The Elements of Design and Draping A Pattern each run from 10:00 – 5:00 on successive Sundays with an hour break each day, for a total of 12 hours of instruction in each class.
We are offering several options for students to take advantage of this opportunity:
12 hour classes are $225 when purchased individually
3 hour classes are $75 when purchased individually
One 12 hour and one 3 hour class are $275, for a savings of $25
All 4 classes can be purchased for $500, for a savings of $100.
