Between leading our many classes and offering excellent yarn shopping advice, our staff has a project or two on their hooks needles. Here, a few of them share what they’ve been working on for holiday gifts!
I am making an ear warmer headband for my dad out of the LB Superwash® Merino. My dad is an avid cyclist, do I chose the Citron color for safety. The wool will keep his ears warm, even at a small gauge, and won’t add bulk under his helmet. The superwash nature means he can throw it in the wash after a long ride. For my mom, I’m making a tea cozy out of Scarfie in Cranberry/Black for her new tea pot. I’ve chosen a mock cable pattern to give it some stretch and help trap warm air around the pot.

My sister saw a knitted poncho she really liked in a magazine and so asked me if I could knit one for her as a Christmas present. Despite it being quite a large piece, I figured it wouldn’t take too long to knit up on my knitting machine, and then I’d finish it by hand. She wanted it to be a bulky weight yarn, so I selected the Lion’s Pride® Woolspun®. The are too many beautiful colors to chose from and I particularly like the stitch definition the yarn gives. She went for the Cranberry color in the end. I hope she’s going to like it! – Ann
I think these knitted socks will make a very nice gift. I am making these colorful rainbow socks out of LB Collection® Pure Wool that I dyed during one of my dyeing classes. The brightly colored wool will be very warm and cheerful on cold winter days. I enjoy working on DPNs, and I make both socks at the same time to avoid second sock syndrome. There is no pattern, the socks are designed around the measurements of your foot, and your personal knitting gauge. There are dyeing classes available in January and the Toe Up Gusset Heel sock class is running again in February. – Darrin
I have been making my way through “The Art of Slip Stitch Knitting”. I’m now on my second pair of boot cuffs, which is really helping me stash bust while finishing holiday gifts! – Rhiannon
