Weft Weaving Club (Free Group)
September 7, September 28, and November 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Come join us for “Weft,” our group for small loom weavers, one Thursday a month. We gather in the Studio’s large second floor classroom to show off our finished textiles to an appreciative audience. We have a selection of different looms to try like the Schacht Cricket and Flip, as well as the Ashford Knitter’s Loom, Inklette, and Sample It! and for tapestry weavers we have the School Loom and Ashford Frame loom. If you don’t have a loom of your own, this is a great time to check out the options if you’re thinking of renting a loom! Also, get 10% off any purchase in the Studio the night of the group!
Tapestry Weaving Basics
Tuition: $75 / Two 3-hour sessions (Sunday, September 10 & 17 from 2:00 to 5:00pm)
Tapestry Weaving Beyond the Basics
Tapestry Weaving Beyond the Basics will build on the skills covered in our introductory class. You will explore new patterns, knots, and shapes while learning how to create a tapestry of your own design. You’ll also have a chance to refresh yourself on skills learned during the introductory class.
Tapestry Loom: Ashford Frame Loom or School Loom (available at LBYS, 10% off class supplies)
Yarn: For warping choose a smooth yarn such as Vanna’s Choice, Wool Ease Worsted or Fishermen’s Wool. For weft, choose a selection of colors and textures that are appropriate to your design. Vanna’s Palettes provides a selection of coordinating colors in small amounts.
Accessories: Comb or fork for beating weft, tapestry needle, scissors, paper and pencil to draw your design.
Rigid Heddle 101
Tuition: $85 / Two 2.5-hour sessions, includes loom rental (Tuesday, November 7 & 14 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm)
No prior weaving skill are required for this class! Learn to warp a rigid heddle loom, weave, reload your shuttle & add new yarn, weave a buttonhole, hemstitch, remove from the loom and seam your handwoven fabric into one of these three projects. If you’re curious about weaving but want to see if you like it before investing in a loom this is the class for you! Students who purchase a loom within 2 weeks of taking class will get 15% off the purchase price.
You will need to bring the following materials to class:
-
- Warp Yarn: 175 yards worsted weight yarn. Heartland, Wool Ease, and Vanna’s Choice are all good choices.
- Weft Yarn: 80 – 100 yards of worsted weight yarn for weft. Can be the same as warp, but a contrasting color is recommended. If you want to make stripes bring more than one color. Color changing yarn is especially effective. Heartland, Wool Ease, Vanna’s Choice, Vanna’s Palettes, Vanna’s Tapestry, Amazing, Fisherman’s Wool, and Textures will all work well.
- Loom: All looms, shuttles and related tools will be provided.
- Accessories: Please bring scissors, large eye blunt needle, measuring tape and (optional) crochet hook.
