This fall we will be collecting charitable donations of handmade hats, scarves, mittens and gloves in partnership with local NYC charity Hats 4 the Homeless. Many of you have told us that you love to knit, crochet and weave for charity, and we want to help! From now until the end of November, get 10% off on yarn to make donations when you come pick it up at the Studio.

And here’s our little way of saying thank you: Each person who drops off his or her final donation by November 30 will receive one 20% off coupon!* There’s one coupon available per customer, so pick it up when you drop off your very last donation.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What can I make? You can donate all kinds of small finished items designed to keep someone warm in winter, including hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves. A simple project like the Sparrow Creek Hat (pictured to the right) makes a great donation! Projects should be as easy to care for as possible (washing and drying). Hats 4 the Homeless serves people of all ages, so all sizes are needed and welcome.

Where do I bring my donation? Bring your donations in person to the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, 34 West 15th Street, New York, NY 10011.

When can I drop it off? We’re accepting donations from now till November 30.

Can I get help picking a project? We can help you find and print off all kinds of fast finish patterns here at the Studio. We’ve also hand-picked some of our favorite fast-finish patterns and included them below; any of these would make great donation!

What if I don’t live in NYC, or don’t finish in time? There are lots of opportunities to share your work with charities throughout the year. If you don’t live in NYC, try using Lion Brand Yarn’s Charity Connection to locate a group near you, or checking with your local community service groups. If you live in NYC but miss the November 30th deadline, you can always contact Hats 4 the Homeless directly to make a donation.
