Who doesn’t love a project that looks complicated to execute–but isn’t? When your friends “Ooh” and “Aah,” you can just smile and thank them knowingly. The secret is that what looks so awe-inspiringly challenging took very little time to master!
That is precisely what I love about entrelac fabric. The woven look is gorgeous, very easy to memorize, and looks really impressive.
What entrelac is really all about is creating a unique fabric through the combination and creative placement of lots of different simple techniques. The best part is learning more ways to apply those techniques. One of the secrets of entrelac is how a color changing yarn can be used to create an amazing effect. Most people assume you can only do entrelac with several different colors of yarn, but one of my favorite tricks is using one ball of a color changing yarn like Amazing to create a very complex look (see Entrelac scarf pictured to the left).
This realization alone is why I love teaching entrelac. I love to see a student have that “a-ha!” moment when they understand how to break the construction down into its building blocks. For that is all entrelac is: many small pieces that make up something breathtaking.
Intro to EntrelacTuition: $60/4 hour session Entrelac is an ingenious knitting technique that creates the illusion of a basket woven fabric by working rows of textured diamond patterns.
