We are thrilled to announce that our surprise guest will be knitting legend, June Hemmons Hiatt!
June Hemmons Hiatt took the knitting world by surprise in 1989 with the release of her book, The Principles of Knitting. A lifelong knitter, she spent ten years researching and writing a book that was soon recognized as providing knitters with a new in-depth understanding of their craft. Her book became THE definitive book on knitting techniques, with valuable information for everyone from beginners to experienced knitters.
Unfortunately, the publisher failed to appreciate how important the book had become and let it go out of print. In the ensuing years, the book has regularly been on the lists of the most sought after out-of-print books, selling on eBay for $400–600 or more a copy. June undertook another ten-year effort to completely rewrite, revise, and expand the book with new material, and Simon & Schuster published the new edition with a fresh new design in February 2012.
We are proud to be hosting June Hemmons Hiatt this spring where she will be sharing her invaluable knitting expertise. All of her techniques have been meticulously tested in order to give clear and accurate instruction to students. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from the mind behind this treasured guide!

Casting On!
In this intensive, fast paced class with June Hemmons Hiatt, you will learn several cast-on techniques from The Principles of Knitting that are ideal for almost everything you might want to knit. The first is an all-purpose cast-on, the next is highly elastic and suitable for contoured edges. These are followed by one that is primarily suitable for ribbing and double-fabrics and then several options for provisional edges. Included are variations of each technique, as well as in-depth discussions of the structure and characteristics of the edges so you will understand how and when to apply them. This class is suitable for advanced knitters who are comfortable learning new techniques fairly quickly.
