Looking for a little inspiration for your holiday DIY? The LBY Staff shares their winter WIPs with you!
Ann – My sister asked me for a cozy sweater for a Christmas pressie and my colleague Will showed me this great pattern he found on Ravelry – the Sideways Muu Muu. I decided to go with Lion’s Pride Woolspun as I love the smooth stitches this yarn creates. I also love the color choices. The sweater is knitted sideways, so I’m going to add a variety of color in thin stripes on a backdrop of grey!
Will – I’m working on the same sweater as Ann, but mine is for a friend who has been dying for an over-sized, swoop-back pullover to wear in the cold and wet back home in Maryland/D.C.
Claire – I snagged this skein of LBC Silk Chiffon right out of the box, I loved the print that much and knew it would look great in a simple cowl. As you can see, I’m a little behind in my holiday knitting, but with size 17 needles, this should work up in under two episodes of Sleepy Hollow!
Darrin – I am making a cowl for my daughter out of the LB Collection Silk Chiffon Ribbon, and the LB Collection Natural wool. I love the Silk Chiffon Ribbon because it is made from recycled silk saris from India. No two hanks are alike, so each one is a one of a kind creation. My good friend Shira has made several of these, and I was inspired by her wonderful creative energy. I don’t like to use a pattern, so I just cast on 80 stitches, did 4 rows of k2p2 rib, and proceeded on in stockinette stitch. I am just randomly adding in stripes of the Natural Wool whenever I feel like it. The Natural Wool was dyed blue for me by a friend of mine. I plan on ending it off with 4 more rows of ribbing.
I think this will make a very nice gift for the holidays!
Shira – When you can knit come holiday time it only makes sense to hand make your gifts! So one of my projects is for one of my best friends. I am working on this cowl, and I created the pattern. I really cast on as many stitches as I feel like (but always an even number) so for this one I think I did 60 stitches. I use a size 17 24 inch length needle. I am mixing Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Fisherman and our LB Collection Silk Chiffon Yarn combined! In no particular order, I do stripes and maybe a little fair isle if I feel the need 🙂
My next project I’m working on is going to be for my girlfriends for Chanukah! Who doesn’t love fingerless gloves? And its my first time making a thumb!!! This is a free pattern I found on Ravelry called Super-Bulky Fingerless Mittens and I am using Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (if you can’t tell its my favorite yarn) and size 11 40inch circulars – I’m doing the pattern in Magic loop, I love magic loop! I feel like it makes the project go even faster, but the gloves go super fast!! I made one in about 30 min (and that was at 5am when I couldn’t sleep so imagine how fast I could go when I’m fully awake).
What projects are you working on this holiday season?
