In response to Linda R. – while I understand your frustration, there seem to be more of us knitters in the world … I think it’s probably because knitting tends to be easier since there are only two stitches and you get two needles to work with. I have a sister-in-law (a very skillful crochet artist) who has tried to teach me how to crochet without success. I can knit anything put in front of me and easily correct mistakes for myself and others but (especially) the tension seems so hard. I wish (for you and me both) there were easier ways to translate patterns. Really haven’t found a good easy method yet.

In response to Dorothy S. I don’t think that there are more knitters in the world, I just think that knit designers and yarn companies are too lazy to find more crochet designers. I’ve taught myself to knit & crochet and I prefer to crochet because fixing mistakes are so much simpler.

Definitely more knitters, we traveled in an RV for 14 years and I rarely found crochet patterns. There is now an uptick in Tunisian crochet thanks to a few talented designers but a cot of crocheters are stuck in granny square land and there is a LOT more to crochet than grannies. That said thanks for whatever you come up with in crochet design, I have learned not to hold my breath and started designing my own stuff.

I too have been designing my own patterns for crochet. I do NOT like granny square anything – too old school (and I’m 58). Most crochet patterns are either grannies, or they don’t work well once I start in making them. I must crochet differently or something but have never had a pattern work like it shows in the pics. NEVER! It gets so frustrating, but I’ve learned a lot by reworking every pattern I want to make so it will work for me. Now I only use patterns for starting points or ideas. I truly believe if more crochet lovers speak up, we’ll start to get more designs that we like, instead of everything being in knit. I can knit, but just don’t care for it. Takes twice as long to make anything and it’s much harder to change colors, create interesting designs, and learn all the different stitches. Please find some better crochet designers so we can make modern designed items too.
